About Dr. Michael G. Saribalas
Dr. Michael Saribalas began his training with a Bachelors of Science Degree from The Ohio State University in Genetics. He then completed a four year Psychiatry Residency at the Mayo Clinic Rochester and Mayo Clinic Jacksonville. Following his residency, he completed a formal AASM Accredited Sleep Medicine Fellowship at The University of Chicago Medical Center under the direction of insomnia expert Wallace B. Mendelson, MD and Allen Rechtschaffen, PhD. Dr. Rechtschaffen has been credited with the discovery of REM sleep and narcolepsy. When Dr. Saribalas completed his formal training he returned to the Mayo Clinic Rochester and worked on staff as a Senior Associate Consultant.

Dr. Saribalas held this position until he became the Medical Director of the Sleep Medicine Centers at Doctors Hospital North in Columbus and Licking Memorial Hospital in Newark, Ohio.

Dr. Saribalas is certified in Behavioral Sleep Medicine by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), and he specializes in treating adolescent and adult patients with all types of sleep and psychiatric disorders.

Dr. Saribalas continues to practice as a distinguished faculty member at The University of Minnesota School of Medicine. He has taken time to give back to the medical field by teaching while at the Mayo Clinic and the University of Chicago. While a professor he has taught: Psychiatry, Internal Medicine, Family Medicine Residents, and Pulmonary and Critical Care Fellows. While on staff at the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Saribalas was voted "Teacher of the Year" by his colleagues. He authored the Sleep Medicine section in the Mayo Clinic book entitled "Handbook for Psychiatry Residents" and has recently assisted in editing the peer reviewed journal Behavioral Sleep Medicine. Dr. Saribalas is active in the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. He just completed his second term on the Behavioral Sleep Medicine BSM Committee and the BSM Exam Committee. In the past, he served three terms on the AASM Fellowship Training Committee and was a AASM Site Visitor for Sleep Medicine Fellowship training programs. Dr. Saribalas is currently a member of the American Sleep Associations Sleep Disorder Awareness Committee.
